Post updated March 14 2022 - more photographs added Post updated March 6 2024 - Photo 18 - Football XI 1966 or 67? added Post updated May 8 2024 - Year 1896/7 added Post updated Jan 9 2025 - Photo 18 Title amended, comment added Recently sourced from the excellent article about the Podmore family by David Clapp with the assistance of Frances Limbrey in June 2015, published by the Cartmel Peninsula Local History Society*, this is probably the first Charney Hall School Year photograph in existence. Taken around 1896 it features George and Matilda Podmore, their daughter Enid, two of their sons Eric and Hubert, together with 22 pupils. The School Lists indicate the intake for 1896 to be 27 boys whereas 24 boys are scheduled in 1897 (This would include the Podmore’s 2 sons) and may therefore be the correct year. * https://cplhs.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...

(Updated May 2019) (Updated June 2020) - the App has been updated - at last I have been able to resize the text!! Well someone had to do it....the task has fallen on little old dyslexic me! First my apologies for the slack setup of the blog - I am a newbie but at least the initial traumas of inputting information that I first experienced have now virtually disappeared due to the updating and debugging of the software by the supplier. 😷 Having come across David Clapp’s post ‘The First 50 Years of Charney Hall School’ ** and Louis’s research into Cumbrian War Memorials *** which prompted many posts from former pupils, I thought that it would be useful to create a working blog where people could leave their thoughts/photos about Charney. Maybe one day Charney Hall will become a curiosity and someone will produce a comprehensive record! An Appreciation of Arthur Beresford Kane McCullagh by Tilak Paul This is an appreciation of A.B.K. McCullagh also known as “John McCullagh”, “Mr McCullagh”, “Uncle John” and to Generations of Old Boys of Charney Hall (CH) “Sir” or “Mr Mac”. In preparing this post I have mercilessly copied and plagiarised the facts and information contained in previous postings on the Blog for which I am indebted and most grateful for and for all the research conducted by Keith Smith, the administrator of this Blog.
