Main Street, Grange-over-Sands

It is actually quite refreshing to see that the Main Street has not changed in more than 100 years!
The shopfront canopies have disappeared and the scalloped fascias of Lancasters General Stores have lost their decorative frames and pilaster urns - the latter reflecting the loss of traditional joinery skills and the cost of maintaining such elegant detailing.

CHARNEY HALL School Year/Team Photographs

Post updated March 14 2022 - more photographs added Post updated March 6 2024 - Photo 18 - Football XI 1966 or 67? added Post updated May 8 2024 - Year 1896/7 added Post updated Jan 9 2025 - Photo 18 Title amended, comment added  Recently sourced from the excellent article about the Podmore family by David Clapp with the assistance of Frances Limbrey in June 2015, published by the Cartmel Peninsula Local History Society*, this is probably the first Charney Hall School Year photograph in existence. Taken around 1896 it features George and Matilda Podmore, their daughter Enid, two of their sons Eric and Hubert, together with 22 pupils. The School Lists indicate the intake for 1896 to be 27 boys whereas 24 boys are scheduled in 1897 (This would include the Podmore’s 2 sons) and may therefore be the correct year.  *  https://cplhs.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...
