CHARNEY HALL Tilak Paul (1967-1971) The Three Musketeers

The Three Musketeers

Tilak Paul (1967-1971), John Mathers (1967-1971) and John Cranna (1965-1971)

Charney Hall Cricket XI 1971

A surprise and unexpected visit to London from John Cranna who lives in Abergavenny, Wales

was an opportunity for the “The Three Musketeers” aka known as John Cranna, John Mathers and Tilak Paul to get together for a wonderful Lunch at a Riverside Pub in Richmond by the Thames in September last month

Whilst Tilak Paul has met up with John Mathers regularly in Central London and also met up with John Cranna in Richmond after 52 years last year this was an ideal and opportune occasion for John Cranna and John Mathers to meet for the first time in 53 years since leaving Charney Hall.

As Readers of this Blog may know John Cranna went onto Shrewsbury School after Charney Hall and John Mathers to Sedbergh School and Tilak Paul to St Bees School

As we tucked into some delicious luncheon food and quenched our thirsts with alcohol, we regaled each other with personal and fond memories and stories of Charney Hall days long ago.

John C, John M and Tilak remember Charney times

The Cricket 1st XI Team picture was probably taken in the Summer of 1971 and the Pub Picture 53 years later complete with the personal ravages of time are of the present day.

The London Branch of Charney Hall Old Boys (and Girls if there are any?) continues to thrive although consisting at present of just two members being John Mathers and Tilak Paul who regularly meet at a Pub for alcoholic lunches or at the Races at Ascot where we never appear to win but it was wonderful on this occasion to welcome our Welsh Branch Representative John Cranna as a Guest Visitor.

We would welcome contact from any local Charney Hall Old Boy or Girl not just those from our era who wish to join us and to make up the numbers at a future meet up.

We especially also all one day look forward to a visit and meeting and welcoming Andrew Holmes-Higgins to the London Branch who appears to have single-handedly established the New York City Branch of the Charney Hall Old Boys Club in faraway lands.

Greetings to All Once Again.

Greetings, Gentlemen! Yes of course I remember you all well. And I know the Richmond riverfront VERY well, as my parents' London flat is just downriver in Putney. Lately my visits to the UK have been to Glasgow however, where I have other family, plus one daytrip to Grange earlier this year. Actually I will be over there in a week's time for a long weekend, but again up in Scotland. But now that I know where to find you all I will see if somehow I can arrange a stopover in London. I'll also see if I can do another Grange trip some time soon as my kids are anxious to see the site of so many of the bedtime stories I would tell them about my adventures in Prep School, especially the one about Fangy Gorilla, whose mysterious appearance in the lane outside Grove House late one Halloween evening (1971?) is celebrated by me at that time every year. Hmmm maybe I'll post something as Halloween approaches on the MANY things that went bump in the night at Charney which I am not making up......
Best wishes to you all!

Good Morning Andrew aka known as D’Artagnan our Fourth Musketeer.

Thank you very much for your post.

We look forward to your future Halloween Post incorporating stories of Charney Hall “going bump in the night”.

A big “Thank You “once again to Keith Smith our Blog Administrator for embellishing our very ordinary text posts with wonderful Photo Editing.

Until we all meet again and are able to use the toast below being the much hackneyed and laboured Alexandre Dumas words….

“All for One and One for All”

Tilak
