CHARNEY HALL Merry Christmas 2025

Wow! 2025 has flown by….I am convinced that the concept of time definitely changes as we age!

One begins to appreciate the importance of reasonable health, firm teeth and effortless mobility. However all physical attributes are bound to have deteriorated over the years and are certainly not in the prime condition that they were in the mists of time at Charney Hall. Many brain cells have disappeared through natural wastage and the imbibing of too much alcohol - a pastime of many masters if I remember correctly. 

This year we have reached the grand total of 38,650 all time hits on the blog of which 8580 were in 2025 - an amazing average of 715 per month. There were many surprises along the way….for instance 916 from China, 440 from Singapore and 523 from ‘Other’. 

The latter are unscheduled in the Blogger report - it would be fascinating to learn from whence they came - some South Pacific island? the rainforests of the Congo? Or just Ischnabagh, Co. Galway, Ireland - McCullagh territory?

China it would appear have adopted the blog as one of their English set books on account of the comparatively large number of hits during the year (a staggering average of 76 hits per month but actually peaking at around 150)! Either that or our site has come to the attention of the Chinese Ministry of State Security…

My Christmas Card this year, a digital painting, is neither Charney related (my apologies) nor perhaps suitable for this time of year. However please accept it along with my best wishes for Christmas 2025 and Easter 2026.

Taken around 1896 it features George and Matilda Podmore, their daughter Enid, two of their sons Eric and Hubert, together with 22 pupils. CHARNEY HALL Welcome!

(Updated May 2019) (Updated June 2020) - the App has been updated - at last I have been able to resize the text!! Well someone had to do it....the task has fallen on little old dyslexic me!   First my apologies for the slack setup of the blog - I am a newbie but at least the initial traumas of inputting information that I first experienced have now virtually disappeared due to the updating and debugging of the software by the supplier. 😷 Having come across David Clapp’s post ‘The First 50 Years of Charney Hall School’ ** and Louis’s research into Cumbrian War Memorials *** which prompted many posts from former pupils, I thought that it would be useful to create a working blog where people could leave their thoughts/photos about Charney.  Maybe one day Charney Hall will become a curiosity and someone will produce a comprehensive record!
