CHARNEY HALL David Clapp’s Contribution

I discovered at the end of last year that the link referenced ‘**’ to the article David Clapp published concerning ‘The First 50 Years of Charney Hall School’ (in my founding post CHARNEY HALL Welcome) had been lost. David’s outstanding research was inspirational in my decision to create some form of record of Charney Hall on the internet. 

I managed to contact David informing him of our predicament and he straightway volunteered to send me copies of his files. These are scheduled below and in view of their importance they now have their own post.

Sincere thanks David for your valued assistance in reinstating copies of your research concerning the early history of Charney Hall School into this blog. Keith Smith

CHARNEY HALL School Year/Team Photographs

Post updated March 14 2022 - more photographs added Post updated March 6 2024 - Photo 18 - Football XI 1966 or 67? added Post updated May 8 2024 - Year 1896/7 added Post updated Jan 9 2025 - Photo 18 Title amended, comment added  Recently sourced from the excellent article about the Podmore family by David Clapp with the assistance of Frances Limbrey in June 2015, published by the Cartmel Peninsula Local History Society*, this is probably the first Charney Hall School Year photograph in existence. Taken around 1896 it features George and Matilda Podmore, their daughter Enid, two of their sons Eric and Hubert, together with 22 pupils. The School Lists indicate the intake for 1896 to be 27 boys whereas 24 boys are scheduled in 1897 (This would include the Podmore’s 2 sons) and may therefore be the correct year.  *  https://cplhs.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...
