I have pleasure in posting some digitised film sent to me by Kim Miller, John Keith Miller’s wife. Keith attended Charney Hall between 1954-1960 when he went to Shrewsbury School. Sadly Keith died in January 2022 and Kim regrets that he did not discover the blog before his death. I quote her kind words and hope that all who recognise him and Patrick ‘Sid’ Watson will remember some good times!
We walked over the hills above Grange and he told me of butterfly walks with Major Rabbidge and his dog, Curfew.
Keith had very many Charney Hall stories, keeping caterpillars and hatching moths, and Mr Hopkins who taught you to write was a great favourite. His only negative memory was of swimming lessons. He didn't like either the water or the cold and even in his 70s would start to shake if we walked out towards the old outdoor swimming pool.”
“Prior to his death he had several colour films digitised which were taken by his father and mother.
These include the sports day in 1957/58 (?) with High Jump competition on the tennis court including a wonderful clip of many small boys carrying a large mat back into the school. Keith assured me that the next year mattresses were pushed out of windows to allow one boy to attempt a Fosbury Flop.
Keith can also be seen on the right of the group photograph taken on Hampsfell (see Charney Hall Pupils abt.1957) and in Charney Hall School Year/Team Photographs- Cricket XI 1959.
Both Patrick and Keith can be seen in the 1959 School Photograph in the same post, standing in the 3rd row up.
Thank you Kim for your valued contribution to this blog.
