CHARNEY HALL Cedric Robinson RIP





Cedric Robinson, former Queen’s Guide to the Sands, died on 19th November 2021 aged 88.

Forever part of the folklore of Morecambe Bay. In the mid 1950s, at the age of 21, he was the saviour of the non-swimmers of Charney Hall in the Grange Lido open-air baths and the perverse who challenged the might of the tidal bore without supervision…

He raised millions of pounds for charity whilst being paid the princely sum of £15 a year for his services as guide.

CHARNEY HALL School Year/Team Photographs

Post updated March 14 2022 - more photographs added Post updated March 6 2024 - Football XI 1966 or 67? added Post updated May 8 2024 - Year 1896/7 added Recently sourced from the excellent article about the Podmore family by Frances Limbrey in June 2015, published by the Cartmel Peninsula Local History Society*, this is probably the first Charney Hall School Year photograph in existence. Taken around 1896 it features George and Matilda Podmore, their daughter Enid, two of their sons Eric and Hubert, together with 22 pupils.
