CHARNEY HALL Teacher Patricia Hanbury 1945-47

Shena Lewington has contacted me to see if anyone remembers Patricia Hanbury, her mother, who taught at Charney Hall between 1945-47. I attach her story as it is contains all the constituents of a good plot - romance, intrigue and a happy ending!

Yes I can see Maxwell Duncan’s face as he opened her letter breaking the bad news and I can guess what happened to Patricia’s belongings....I wonder if they paid for the summer school course...

As always any memories/documents/photographs of that time at Charney would be gratefully received but in particular news from anyone who may have any information about Patricia.

Post updated March 14 2022 - more photographs added Post updated March 6 2024 - Photo 18 - Football XI 1966 or 67? added Post updated May 8 2024 - Year 1896/7 added Post updated Jan 9 2025 - Photo 18 Title amended, comment added  Recently sourced from the excellent article about the Podmore family by David Clapp with the assistance of Frances Limbrey in June 2015, published by the Cartmel Peninsula Local History Society*, this is probably the first Charney Hall School Year photograph in existence. Taken around 1896 it features George and Matilda Podmore, their daughter Enid, two of their sons Eric and Hubert, together with 22 pupils. The School Lists indicate the intake for 1896 to be 27 boys whereas 24 boys are scheduled in 1897 (This would include the Podmore’s 2 sons) and may therefore be the correct year.  *  https://cplhs.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...
